How do I care for a loose Pearl?
โข Pearls are delicate: A Pearl is soft and porous, so treat it far more gently than gold or Diamonds.
โข After handling: Wipe the Pearl with a soft, slightly damp cloth, then dry it. Never soak a Pearl.
โข Avoid: Perfume, hairspray, cosmetics, and household chemicals, which can dull or damage the Pearl. Skip ultrasonic cleaners entirely.
โข Storage: Keep in a soft pouch, separate from other jewellery, so the Pearl is not scratched.

Should I keep my pearl in the tough case I have, or a soft pouch?
Each pearl should be kept in a protective hard case for safekeeping and gifting purposes, but we recommend placing the pearl long-term in a soft pouch or jewellery box with a hard lining. Hard cases may cause minor scratches if the pearl moves during travel.
Do Poh Heng loose pearls come with any official certificates for authenticity?
Yes. All South Sea Pearl sold by Poh Heng is accompanied by an official certificate from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) that certifies its authenticity, natural origin, and quality grading.
When should I avoid wearing my pearl jacket or loose pearl jewellery?
Take off any pearl jewellery before swimming, showering, bathing, or using saunas/steam rooms. Pearls should also not be worn during sporting activity, exercise, or other physical activity that causes a lot of sweat, rubbing, or impact.
Can daily use of beauty products or cosmetics harm my pearls?
Yes. Alcohol and acids in perfumes, hairsprays, body lotions, make up, household cleaning products, and a host of other products deaden a pearl's natural luster. Remember the "Last On, First Off" principle: put on all cosmetics and fragrances first and then on the pearls, and then remove all the cosmetics and fragrances before removing the pearls and washing the face or body.
Does heat or sunlight affect pearl appearance?
Yes. Direct exposure to the sun, high temperatures, or changes in temperature will cause a pearl's nacre to dry out and become discoloured and lose any lustre over time, and develop surface cracking.
How does a pearl jacket complement a loose pearl or stud earring?
A pearl jacket is a piece of jewellery that can be made with white gold or diamonds to wrap around or top a centre pearl or stud. It allows you to dress it up or down as you see fit, from everyday to a glamorous look.
How do I maintain the natural lustre of South Sea pearls long term?
South Sea pearls should be wiped clean with a soft, lint-free cloth after wearing to remove external oils and wipes. Do not use ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners or hard soaps. The pearl can retain the moisture balance of its natural environment when stored in breathable soft pouches.
